The
Audi Quattro S-2 is based on the two-door coupe, with
a 5 cylinder, 20 valve, turbo-charged motor which develops 230
HP on the street. When prepared to Open Class ProRally specifications,
the Lehmann built motor develops 340 HP and weighs but 2570
pounds. This, coupled with a close-ratio 5 speed transmission,
gives the Audi a top speed of 120 mph, very adequate for the
twisty forest roads where rallies are won or lost.
While other advanced cars may have more horsepower, the all
wheel drive "quattro" system coupled with the heavy-duty
suspension and brakes, allow the Audi to traverse the normally
rough rally roads at high speeds with no ill effects to the
cornering or braking. |
